Rewind: March 2026

Image
Hey y'all let's see what's up today! As we finish March and we step into April, I wanted to use this as a time to shed bad habits and welcoming in some new ones. This came with a few new challenges, the first of many being time. Another big challenge that I faced this month was more common flare ups from my chronic illnesses. I caught a viral  respiratory infection the first week of March, and then had symptoms of said viral respiratory infection for the rest of the month, I'm still getting rid of symptoms from that (I was told they could last 3 to 8 weeks so lets hope it stops soon).  Aside from that, though, March was really good for me. I got some new furniture, I was able to get my hours cut to part time so that I can take better care of my health, and hopefully that means that we'll also be seeing some more content rolling out more consistently. While I may be stepping back to prioritize my health I'm not going to be spending that additional t...

Hey y'all let's see what's up today! This month for bookclub we're reading Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Mr. Grady Hendrix, one of my personal favorite horror authors. Going into this review I am going to hold Mr. Hendrix to the same standards that I hold every other author that I read. It is really hard to say that knowing that I really love this novel, so this review will most likely be coming to you guys after my book club meeting, that way I can get some unbiased perspective on the whole situation. Horror Hub: How 80s Horror Shaped the Horror Scene

Image
Hey y'all let's see what's up today! I apologize that this did not get posted on Friday, I scheduled a post and for some reason it didn't save and I didn't notice until this morning. For this week's Horror Hub I wanted to discuss how 80s horror really shaped the horror scene. While these films may not be scary by modern standards, they really set the bar for horror and even some action movies at the time. This post is going to be one of the longer ones so if this is not going to be something that interests you feel free to take this as a warning. Why the 80s? While the Creature Features of the 1920s and 1930s helped to kick start horror's migration to the big screen and the 1950s held the audience's interest with its own share of eerie films and TV shows, we hold the slashers of the late 1970s,1980s, and early 1990s as some of the most iconic films of the genre. This is the era in which horror really had its growth spurt so to spe...

Chatterbox: Does Everything Feel Like A "Limited Drop" Now? (03/26/2026 - 04/01/2026)

Image
Hey y'all let's see what's up today! First and foremost I needed to change the Chatterbox date again, we'll now be having that on Thursdays to help spread things out a bit more evenly. I've talked on the blog before about how everything feels like it's just one giant advertisement now. From our streaming services and games to even our social media everything is just riddled with advertisements to the point it feels... corny. However, there's another big thing that I've noticed in the past year or so, coupled with the ever present motion of trends and that is almost everything feels "Limited Edition". I started noticing it when I received an advertisement from Cirkul, releasing their new "Bottle Drops" that had limited edition flavors, water bottles, and other accessories that were limited release. This sort of kicked off a cycle of noticing that a lot of things are limited release. Things that absolutely should not be lim...

Anthropology Alcove: The History of Saint Patrick's Day

Image
Hey y'all let's see what's up today! Seeing as this is the month of Saint Patrick's Day, and my family is Scots-Irish on my dad's side, I wanted to do a history of the holiday. For those of you that don't know me all that well personally, I am a fourth generation American, and my great great grandpa Wally immigrated to Appalachia from Cork, Ireland sometime in the 1910s-1920s (I unfortunately don't have an exact date for that at this time). Appalachian culture was shaped by these immigrants, the Native American people, and the African American people that settled here between the 1700s and early 1900s. This meshing of different cultures shaped our slang, our recipes, faith, and even our music but we'll get into that in a different post. As always, this post will be a rather lengthy one, so if that's not something that you enjoy or you think you're able to get through this is your final warning. For those of you that wish to stay let...

Chatterbox: What is Your Ideal "Do Nothing" Day? (03/17/2026 - 03/23/2026)

Image
Hey y'all let's see what's up today! I've posted a lot of discussion topics on here since January, and I thought maybe instead of just picking a topic and prattling off about it I'd try to get some responses going, so that's the goal of today's post. We're going to be talking about Do Nothing Days or as I like to call them "No Bones Days" because let's face it there are some days that you literally just can't. Whether it be because you have a chronic illness, you're overwhelmed, or you just need a break we all have to have a good low effort recovery day to keep us at our best selves. I'm going to share my version of a No Bones day with you guys, and if you'd like share your own in the comments! This is a judgement free zone always. My Ideal "Do Nothing" Day Being a chronically ill girlie, I have these days a lot more than I'd like. However, I am not one that is content with just laying...
