Rewind: January 2026

Image
Hey y'all let's see what's up today! I've been kind of radio silent this week because I was working on 5 larger posts, this one being one of them. We're going to use this post to take a step back and look at the month of January. We're going to take a look at our goals, what we could have done differently, and overall how this month has been making us feel. Goals First and foremost we have goals. At the beginning of this month I set 3 goals and honestly I failed like... completely. However, I think failure is important. Failure is what helps us to identify when things aren't working and what we can do differently to try to achieve a goal or deadline. Some things that I know made achieving my goals differently was my development of carpel tunnel thanks to extra work I'd been doing, and the pay changes I experienced in the middle of the month which made it incredibly hard to get a set budget set up. Events Though Roll fo...

Bookmarked: Thirteen Storeys by Jonathan Sims

Image
Hey y'all let's see what's up today! In this post I will be reviewing Thirteen Storeys by Jonathan Sims. Before we dive in, I would like to direct you to Mr. Sims other works which you can find on the Rusty Quill Spotify account or wherever you get your podcasts. He has such a fresh and unique take on horror that I personally find really interesting as someone who loves media with lots of layers. However, despite my love for the Magnus Archives and the Magnus Protocol I also discovered that he was in a band called the Mechanisms. If you like music that tells a story, Steampunk, and Space Pirates you will absolutely adore their music. They have been my personal soundtrack for late night writing sessions since I found the band!  That being said I was absolutely on the hunt for this novel because I have thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Sims other work and when I found it I had to really force myself to wait as I was reading another book at the time. 👻 🦷🔧🔪🔑🎻 Thirteen St...

Horror Hub: Scream 7

Image
Hey y'all let's see what's up today! Today I wanted to talk about an upcoming release for Scream 7. This appears to be the firey grand finale to the iconic slasher series. Though the movie doesn't release until February 27th, so we won't be able to see if they will leave space for another film or a sequel until it hits the big screen based of the advertisements I'm  going to say this is going to be the last film for the franchise at this point. According to IMDB we have quite the cast lined up for this film including Matthew Lillard returning as Stu Macher, Neve Campbell returning as Sydney Prescott, and David Arquette returning as Dewey Riley. I won't spoil too much about the plot but I believe we're really going to see some crucial developments for Sydney Prescott this time around and I'm curious to see what the directors have planned for one of our most iconic modern final girls. There is apparently a lot of con...

Anthropology Alcove: The History of Astronomy, Planetariums + ETSU Planetarium Event

Image
Hey y'all let's see what's up today! I had the pleasure of going to the planetarium last week, and as such I thought I'd do a little bit of a history lesson on planetariums, astronomy, and share my experience at the event. This is going to be kind of a longer post so please buckle in if you'd like to join us and let's get started! Astronomy According to sources, Astronomy is not only one of the oldest natural sciences dating back to the Egyptians, Babylonian and Mayan civilizations, it is also one of the first natural sciences to reach a near modern level of sophistication in the first millennium (or years 1-1,000 BCE). This era was the transitional period from Classical Antiquity to the Middle Ages, and was the peak of the Roman Empire as well as its decline. Other studies that advanced during this period were biology, meteorology, physics, and chemistry. We saw the spread of Buddhism in East Asia, as well as the Viking age and continu...

Bookmarked: Incidents Around the House by Josh Malermnan

Image
Hey y'all let's see what's up today! Today we're going to be reviewing Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman, the author behind Bird Box and Pearl. This book was read in the Midnight Monsters Club for our January book club. You may also know that I'll be reviewing Thirteen Storeys by Jonathan Sims as well, however I actually listened to this on audio book while reading the other book. This novel is pretty similar to Coraline, so if you're uncomfortable with that movie you probably won't be as much of a fan of this one. I was actually informed that this novel is going to be turned into a film called Other Mommy that is projecting to be release October 9th of this year so if you prefer the movie to the book, definitely keep an eye out for that release.  While I did not get to listen to a playlist while I was reading, I went ahead and made one anyway. These are just songs that I felt fit the theme of the novel.  🏚Incidents Around the House...

Chatterbox: The Importance of Planners

Image
Hey y'all let's see what's up today! As many of you know I love and breathe by my planner, and I am not the only one in my family that does. I've always been the type that has to have a planner, and used to have a hard time sticking to using said planner that is until I found more ways that I could sort of make it my own and run with it. If you're the type that struggles with planning, this post may be able to help you out because it was a struggle for me at first as an adult, even though my middle and high-school required us to use them if we were a part of after school activities, so I understand the struggle. The Importance of Using a Planner Using a planner can be important for a multitude of reasons. If you're the type of person that forgets everything, you don't remember your passwords, or your budget is a mess a planner can help you get more organized. Here are just a few things that you can utilize a planner for that can be pr...

Horror Hub: Horror at the Oscars + New Funko Releases

Image
Hey y'all let's see what's up today! As the title might suggest there is a lot to unpack in the horror scene this week with Funko dropping some new horror figures, and several horror movies taking their place among nominations for the Oscars. I'm going to discuss both of these topics this week, so this post is going to be a bit on the longer side. This is my first horror news piece so stick with me and please feel free to leave suggestions on how I can improve future posts like this in the comments! Horror at the Oscars There were 3 horror films that were nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars this year  Sinners, Frankenstein, and Bugonia. I haven't seen Sinners or Bugonia however I have heard nothing but raving reviews about the both of them. Because I can't speak on either of the other films, I'm not going to go too in depth on Frankenstein either, however I do hope that it wins.  Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of Frankenst...
