Chatterbox: "Main Character Energy" (02/20/2026 - 02/26/2026)

Hey y'all let's see what's up today! If you've been on the internet at all within the past couple years you've probably heard the term "Main Character Energy". What does it really mean to have "main character energy"? Is the term being used too often to promote the wrong message? How can we better embody this term in a positive way? Let's talk about it!

What Is Main Character Energy?

Everyone wants to feel like they're the star of their own show, and in many ways we are. The term main character energy is often used to describe something bold that stands out from the crowd. This can be your personality, your outfit, sometimes even places feel like they give off main character energy.

So let's think about what it actually means to be a main character. To me the main character is someone who is logical, a team player that knows when to take charge of a situation and also when to step back and learn from someone more skilled. They're resilient, problem solvers, and often times compassionate to the other characters and situations around them. Most importantly, they know when to do the right thing, even if its a difficult decision to make or if they face scrutiny from their peers.

Is Our Definition of Main Character Energy Actually Main Character Energy?

Despite all this concept of main character energy, do we actually embody any of these characteristics? Those that I see talking about having main character energy are often times only focused on being bold. They come across as self centered, rude, and perhaps a bit standoff-ish. Despite this, there are a few people that genuinely do give off main character energy in a way that actually makes them seem like a main character, someone worth looking up to.

A few of the people I would like to highlight as fitting the definition of a main character are Representative Jasmine Crockett of the United States House of Representatives, Ozzy Osbourne, Markiplier, Kamala Harris, and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of the United States House of Representatives.

The people listed above have very strong but likeable personalities. They speak their mind without hesitation but not in a way that would come across as rude. They dominate the room without deliberate attempts to demean those around them or put others out of place. They're bold, but not in a way that could be seen as aggressive.  It's this delicate balance of knowing that you're a person who gathers a lot of attention without letting said attention dictate your actions and go to your head.

How Can We Become the Main Character?

We can become the main character pretty easily, without becoming a celebrity or politician. I think the true embodiment of being the main character is existing loudly and authentically, however not in a way that is going to give you the feel of "I am better than you".  Some ways you can do this are:

🎙Take Initiative: If you see a task that needs to be done that no one else is volunteering to complete, offer to take on the challenge

🎙Be Open to Learning: Being open to learning new skills, especially if they are going to help you achieve a long-term goal or improve your understanding of something.

🎙Support Your Peers: Showing support for achievements, offering comfort during times of grief, or even just a helping hand when someone is struggling are great ways to support those around you.

🎙Be Present: This is the biggest thing, being present for important events and following through on your obligations, in my opinion, truly embody main character energy. Obviously if it is to your own detriment don't put yourself or others in risk's way but at least explain why you weren't able to be there.

🎙Volunteer: This is another big thing that I think helps add to that main character energy. Volunteering or donating to charity is an important aspect of emotional and mental growth and I think we really need to see a lot more of that.

🎙Educate Yourself: Staying on top of current events can definitely feel like a massive burden, especially given everything currently going on in the world, but staying informed and taking the initiative to educate yourself will totally give you main character energy.
